It’s raining whales!
The Web is Falling (Or whales are falling out of the sky)
Twitter got a huge boost in terms of exposure and users by throwing whales at innocent users (http://cynicroot.com/blog/2008/07/30/the-twitter-conspiracy-downtime-a-publicity-stunt/).
Other companies are now doing the same. It seems that some downtime provides good exposure to companies with many users which don’t get too much spotlight.

The Twitter Conspiracy: downtime - a publicity stunt?
I’m not that much of a Twitter user, but it seems that recently no blog is complete without saying something about twitter.
Twitter had a lot of downtime over 1-2Q08. It made all blogs talk about twitter even more, a lot more:

Yet another business model for twitter
Revshare with US operators.
In the US, operators get up to 15c per text RECEIVED by mobile users.
Suppose twitter got just 1c per text Twitter sent.
Every time Robert Scoble goes to sleep Twitter would make about 200$
